One of the aims of the JustJobs Index is to exploit existing data in order to build a comprehensive picture of the characteristics and quality of the labor market and the jobs that people have in the different countries of the world. That is an aim that is far from easy to achieve, as the example of safety at work shows.
Work safety is an obvious characteristic of JustJobs. Workers should not come to harm while performing their jobs. Many countries measure accidents at work, both fatal and non-fatal. But countries do not measure equally well. The graphs shown here illustrate the problem: countries that apparently have low rates of accidents are not the ones we would expect, and one might suspect that the very high exhibited by for example Luxembourg are more related to good reporting than work in Luxembourg being much more dangerous than in India.
Because of the problems with the data on work related accidents we had to omit this dimension from the JustJobs Index 2014.
